This was a hard read for me, because I've lived close to this

This tension is one of the main reasons for the demise of so many victims of abuse

And honestly, we need to stop seeing the good in people along side their horrific deeds

If people repeatedly do bad things then they are bad

Spoiler, if you haven’t read it, but…

I hope nobody misses the two parallels that often constitute cases of domestic abuse like Anjola’s own.

1. The protection, rationalisation, or justification of the abuse/abuser by the victim.

2. The lack of self-awareness by the abuser, usually due to narcissism, of the depravity of their nature, despite being acutely aware of the consequences of their actions.

And that’s why I enjoy fiction writing because all this can be compressed into one story, without saying too much.

You just have to pay attention.
