Hello God,
How are you doing?
How’s humankind looking from heaven today?
Not too terrible, I hope.
I just wanted to take this time out to tell you a few things.
Not just for me,
but on behalf of the person that’s also reading this letter.
We know you never get tired of listening to us anyway.
We live our lives everyday,
bombarded by countless activities and distractions
that sometimes we forget to talk to You.
We forget to be conscious of Your presence,
and of the countless good things You’ve done for us.
And are doing.
When life gets tough,
we choose to obssess over the things that are going wrong.
Forgetting that the breath we’re using to complain
is a gift from you too.
Forgetting that even being alive to complain is also a blessing.
Forgetting that because we are still alive,
there’s the hope that things will get better.
It’s Christmas day today.
Billions and billions will sing Your praises,
and yet it still won’t be enough to quantify your greatness.
So, I’ll just say this:
THANK YOU.
Thank you for existing.
For being good. For being you.
You didn’t have to create us, but you did anyways.
You made us in your likeness.
Gave us a beautiful world to live in.
A world filled with everything we could ever need.
Then what’s better? You stayed in it with us.
Everyday, we have your presence and your love.
Whether we’re conscious of it or not.
Your LOVE…
I can’t even start to describe it.
No one can ever describe it.
Unconditional. Unmerited. Unrelenting.
Irrevocable. Irrestible. Irregular.
Overwhelming. Overextending. Overpowering.
Same as your MERCY.
Undeserved. Unequivocable. Uncomparable.
Unlimited. Unending. Uncompromising.
Un-understandable. Unflinching. Unexplainable.
Those are two things about you I’ll never fully grasp.
I don’t even try to anymore.
I just enjoy them.
And everyday I try to make sure I say “Thank you.”
So, Thank you.
I wonder why people don’t believe you exist,
when you’re written clearly all around us.
How else do we explain the oceans? Or the diverse creatures in them?
Explorers have been exploring for years, yet they’ve barely begun.
Or is it space? The planets floating in the large, dark void,
suspended in nothingness.
What holds them in place?
Nobody knows.
We’ve been on Earth for thousands of years,
yet we still have enough air and water.
An unlimited supply that we’ll never ever exhaust,
no matter how badly we abuse them.
I’m even going too far.
Let me bring it closer to home.
I thank you for emotions.
Love. Joy. Peace.
Sadness. Anger. Distress.
Those are the things that make us who we are.
And you put them all in us for a reason.
Thank you for the times we feel these things.
Even if we don’t fully understand it.
Thank you for Freewill.
The ability to choose.
You, the Supreme, could have forced your will upon us.
But you chose not to.
That’s love. That’s your love.
Thank you for family. Friends. People.
Even for those that don’t have any of them.
Thank you because they are still not alone.
Thank you because we can love and be loved.
Imagine a world without love?
What would we even be doing?
Food.
Water.
Air.
Provision. Protection. Peace.
We might not have all that we want,
but you’ve given us all that we need.
Thank you.
Thank you because the Sun doesn’t shine all day,
that’ll be such a dread.
Thank you because 1+1 is not 3,
odd numbers are so boring.
Thank you for imagination, the ability to mentally make things up.
I use that cool feature a lot.
Thank you for the internet.
Yes, it can be bad. Yes, we use it too much. Yes, it’s making us dumber.
But still, thank you because we have it anyway.
Thank you for music, wow.
Wow.
Hip-Hop and Afrobeats especially,
the other genres don’t really matter, if we’re being honest.
Thank you for the ability to create.
To write. To draw. To sing.
To teach. To entertain. To impart.
To consume. To learn. To reproduce.
It’s ridiculous, that you, the first and greatest Creator,
gave each and every single one of us that power.
A power that could’ve been solely yours.
A power you didn’t even give your highest angels.
You gave it to us all at birth, free of charge.
Wow.
Thank you for our failures.
Thank you for our wins.
Thank you for our mistakes.
Thank you for our right doings.
Thank you for our ignorance.
Thank you for our wisdom.
Thank you for the things about you that we’ll never understand.
Thank you for the things about you that you’ve revealed to us.
I’ve never deeped this one until now,
But thank you for structure.
You have put structure in our lives,
and in everything in the universe.
From the critical like the rising of the sun,
to the “mundane” like brushing our teeth in the morning.
Structure.
Plant. Water. Grow.
Sun. Wind. Rain.
Born. Live. Die.
And even when these structures seem to “fail”,
nothing ever changes your power.
Thank you for the small things that make us happy.
The smile of a baby.
The comfort of a blanket on a cold night.
The “I love you” from a person we also love.
The new season of our favourite show.
The joy of worship in your presence.
“Incoming Transaction: Credit Alert.”
Thank you for them all.
As for me:
I Thank you for football.
I Thank you for sleep.
I Thank you for rap music.
I Thank you because I can write.
I Thank you for my friends and my family.
I don’t show it and probably don’t say it enough,
but I’m grateful for them all.
I Thank you for creating women.
I Thank you for making them so beautiful.
I Thank you for my sense of humour.
I Thank you for my football club, Real Madrid.
I Thank you for my GOAT, Cristiano Ronaldo.
I Thank you because I always have something to write about.
I Thank you for everyone that’s ever read something I wrote.
I Thank you because I have come a long way,
and you have even longer and greater ways in store for me.
I Thank you for loving me.
There’s so many things to thank you for.
If we ponder deeply.
And I mean deeply.
If we look around and observe the little things.
We can and we will see you there.
We can see that there is a God in Heaven,
directing the affairs of man on Earth.
It’s unquestionable.
It doesn’t matter what “science” says,
or what the small minds of human “philosophers” come up with.
No.
You exist. And you are a great God.
Finally, most importantly, thank you for Jesus.
Your only son.
The only reason we can know you like this.
The only reason we can even enjoy these things you’ve given us.
The real reason for the season.
The greatest gift ever,
freely given to all of mankind.
Thank you.
Beyond the lights, and the carols, and the movies,
the real joy is because a child was born.
A child that led to the redemption of humanity.
The evidence of your love.
And your mercy.
Humbly born in a manger.
It doesn’t matter if the exact date was today.
Or March 11. Or August 2. Or June 21.
What matters is that He was born.
He was God, come in the form of man.
Thank you.
I thank you because you’ll provide peace in these times, for all those who are not “merry”.
For those who are reminded of the people they’ve lost.
I thank you because you yourself will comfort them and give them strength.
And your peace that passeth all understanding.
We Sin. Doubt. Wander astray. Make mistakes. Ignore you. Abandon you. Take you for granted. Belittle your things. Sometimes, we’re even ashamed of you.
And yet.
Yet.
You’ve not stopped loving us.
Not for once.
I’ll never understand it.
Maybe I’ll never fully feel it, because it’s greater than any human emotion.
But I know it’s always there.
So, Thank you.
Thank you for the Bible.
Your word.
The only guide a man will ever need for life and living.
Thank you for 2024.
For all the moments.
The Highs. The Lows.
The In-betweens when we felt nothing.
We’re alive and here today.
That’s what matters.
Thank you for 2025.
Because we know that it will be much better.
For me. For us. For our country.
For the world.
Bad things will still happen. Terrible things, even.
But we have hope.
You are the Hope we have.
So we look forward with optimism.
With the belief that no matter how bad things get.
I have a God.
A God that doesn’t change.
A God that is always on my side.
So why would I afraid?
-Yours Sincerely,
EBUNOLUWA.
Merry Christmas to You! ❤
Never forget the reason for celebration.
Have a good day, today and every other day
