For most people, the end of every year comes with a deep desire to reflect and think about the year.
Some people go through their journals to relive the year again.
Some people do story recaps to highlight their best moments from the year.
Some people write deep letters of appreciation for their friends/family.
We all have a way of looking back on the year to appreciate or criticise it.
And it’s a good thing.
I think everyone should take a moment, however little, to go through 2024 again.
Just to ponder how it went.
Even if you feel like you have nothing to be grateful about, still do it.
I curated this list of questions for each one of us to ask ourselves, easing the reflection process.
NOTE - Don’t go through this list if you won’t be 100% brutally honest with yourself on the answers.
There’s no need to reflect if you won’t be genuine with your feelings.
Take a moment, pause and ask:
Self-Discovery
What harsh truths about myself did I avoid this year, and why?
Who was I when no one was watching, and did that version of me reflect who I wanted to be?
What fears or insecurities controlled more of my actions than I cared to admit?
What did I discover about myself that surprised or unsettled me?
What moments made me feel the most alive, and how often did I allow myself to experience them?
Growth
What excuses did I rely on this year, and how did they limit my progress?
In which areas of my life did I fail to show up fully, and what was the real reason?
What achievements felt hollow because I pursued them for the wrong reasons?
How often did I push myself out of my comfort zone, and what came of it?
Where did I grow the most, and what sparked that growth?
Relationships
Which relationships did I let slip away, and what could I have done differently?
Who did I take for granted, and how did that affect our bond?
Did I truly give as much to others as I expected to receive from them?
What feedback or criticism from others did I ignore, even though it was valid?
Which connections drained me the most, and why did I allow it to continue?
Habits and Choices
What habits served me well, and which ones sabotaged my goals?
How often did I prioritise short-term comfort over long-term fulfilment?
What did I consistently tell myself I would do "tomorrow" but never followed through on?
Where did I waste the most time or energy this year, and why?
What opportunities did I miss because I wasn’t prepared or brave enough to seize them?
Mental and Emotional Health
What emotions did I suppress the most, and how did that impact me?
How often did I ignore my intuition, and what were the consequences?
When did I feel most at peace this year, and what did I do to protect that peace?
What fears or negative patterns did I finally face, and what changed as a result?
What did I cling to out of fear or habit, even though I knew it was time to let go?
Spirituality
How often did I prioritise my relationship with God, and what impact did it have on my life?
In what ways did my faith grow, and where did I struggle to trust or surrender to God’s will?
How consistent was I in prayer, worship, or studying the word of God?
When did I feel closest to God this year, and what did I learn from that experience?
How often did I reflect God’s love, kindness, and forgiveness in my interactions with others?
Looking Ahead to 2025
What is the one habit or mindset I want to cultivate in 2025 to transform my life meaningfully?
How will I ensure my goals for 2025 are rooted in my values rather than external pressures or comparisons?
What is one major challenge I anticipate facing in 2025, and how can I prepare myself to overcome it?
Who do I want to become by the end of 2025, and what daily actions will help me get there?
What legacy or impact do I want to leave behind in 2025, both in my personal and professional life?
Hope that helps you to further ponder on this past year properly and gives you more clarity in preparation for the new year.
Advice - Create a gratitude list. Write out everything good that happened to you this year. Every milestone. Everything you’re grateful for. It’ll help you see just how blessed you are.
Happy New Year in Advance. ❤
