Not the war with the bombs and the helicopters swarming
But the war for your soul, that's what everyone's ignoring
- King Los, War (2015).
There’s a war going on.
Not with weapons.
Not with soldiers.
But with something far more subtle.
Information. Influence. Attention.
Every day, when you wake up, you step into a battlefield.
Oftentimes, you don’t realise it.
The War for Your Mind
Open your phone.
Scroll through your feed.
There’s always:
A trending controversy.
A new celebrity scandal.
A shocking headline.
Something to argue about.
Something to be angry about.
Something to pay attention to.
And while you’re distracted by all these things that seem urgent…
The things that actually matter fade into the background.
Your Life. Your Plans. Your Ambition.
Your will to do anything worthwhile.
Television used to be the primary culprit, nowadays, it’s the internet.
It chooses the conversations you have.
It shapes your perception of the world.
It bombards you with information you don’t need.
In Mass Communication, The Agenda-Setting Theory explains that:
The media doesn’t necessarily tell you what to think.
It just tells you what to think about.
This is more dangerous.
Why?
Because whatever occupies your thoughts, can influence your actions, and ultimately, shape the type of person you are.
If you’re not careful, you’ll get swept away in it.
You’ll think you’re making independent choices.
You’ll think you’re forming your own opinions.
But in reality, you’re slowly (but surely) starting to think and act in a certain way.
Your perspectives change.
Your desires change.
Your goals change.
Think of it like this:
Is there something you never agreed with before? Maybe a particular point-of-view?
But after watching a few videos and hearing some few thoughts about it, you start to think:
“Maybe it’s not so bad…”
That’s the conditioning at work.
It can be positive.
It can be negative.
The point is that: It works.
The Distraction Economy
The most dangerous thing about this war?
It’s profitable.
The longer you “scroll” online, the more money they make.
Dopamine keeps you engaged.
FOMO keeps you engaged.
Trends keep you engaged.
This is why important issues barely make the front page and are rarely ever discussed on social media.
Coincidence? I think not.
While your personal goals sit untouched and you waste hours consuming meaningless content.
You’re enriching the pockets of another.
To you, it’s fun.
To them, it’s business.
Yet, in the truest sense, only one side is winning.
Wake Up. Take Control.
Most people are losing this war.
Not because they aren’t smart.
Not because they don’t care.
But because they don’t even realise they’re being played.
They don’t control what they give their attention.
Content consumes them more than they consume it.
They don’t focus on what interests them, just what’s fed to them.
I’ll be honest:
If you don’t take control of your mind, someone else will.
Something else will shape your goals.
Shape your thoughts.
Tell you what to believe.
Tell you what to perceive as “true.”
And nowadays, where almost everyone is struggling for identity.
Where there’s so many different propaganda and agenda being pushed.
The war is raging more than ever.
Don’t be on the losing side.
"Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." - Proverbs 4:23.
